Print the applicable Burn Permit, sign it, and keep it on site. You no longer need to go to a fire station to pick up a Burn Permit or have one signed.
Please carefully review the Burn Permit, you are responsible for knowing and adhering to the guidelines. Note that the City of Woodinville has different guidelines than the rest of the Eastside Fire & Rescue service area.
Resolution 96-11
Adopted Resolution 96-11 for the purpose of regulation burning within the boundaries of the District. This permit process does not apply to the area of the Fire District under contract with the Department of Natural Resources. There is no cost associated with these permits.
The guidelines below will be followed for issuing burning permits for residential, recreational, cooking, religious and ceremonial outdoor fires.
Persons and equipment capable of extinguishing the fire shall be on the burn site and in attendance at all times. This permit may be revoked at any time by the Chief of the Fire Department. The violation of, or failure to comply with all Eastside Fire & Rescue/Fire District 10, and Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA) regulations, shall be subject to penalty.
Residential Fires
Burning is permitted when the parcel is outside the Urban Growth Area and there is a minimum separation of 50 feet from any structure or combustible material. This permit allows for one burn pile only. Residential burning shall be permitted from 10 am until sunset. Only natural vegetation shall be burned. The fire shall not contain any rubber products, asphalt products, petroleum products, plastics, garbage, dead animals or any other waste material.
Definition: Residential burning means small outdoor fires consisting of leaves, clippings, pruning, and other yard and gardening refuse origination on lands immediately adjacent and in close proximity to the dwelling where the property owner lives.
Conditions of residential burning:
Fire is on applicant’s residential property.
Pile of burning material shall not be larger than 4 x 4 x 3 feet.
Burn permit shall be at the site while burning.
There shall be no burning within 50 feet (100-foot diameter) of any fences, trees, structures, or other combustible materials.
Eastside Fire & Rescue/Fire District 10 shall assume no responsibility for damages to property or injury to persons resulting from a fire conducted pursuant to this permit or the inspection or extinguishment of such a fire. Applicant shall release the District and its officers. Employees and agents from any damages or injuries suffered by the applicant or the applicant’s property as a result of a fire conducted pursuant to this permit. Applicant further shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless the District and its officers, employees or agents from any claims, damages, liability, losses and cost resulting from a fire conducted pursuant to this permit or the inspection or extinguishment of such a fire.
A seasonal moratorium on outdoor burning will be imposed from June 15 through September 30 of each year.
Cooking/Recreational Fires
Fires in manufactured cooking devices do not require a permit. Cooking/Recreational fires in an open pit shall be prepared to provide an area that is free of materials that could allow the fire to spread. Fires shall not be larger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet and shall have a minimum separation of 25 feet to any structure of combustible material. Fires shall consist solely of charcoal or seasoned natural wood. This permit authorizes one such fire at a time.
Native American Religious/Ceremonial Fires
Fires shall be prepared to provide an area that is free of material that could allow the fire to spread and shall not be larger than 3 feet by 3 feet by 2 feed and shall have a minimum separation of 25 feet from any structure or combustible material. This permit authorizes one such fire at a time.
Land-Clearing Fires
As of July 1, 2008 land clear permits are no longer allowed by the order of Puget Sound Clean Air Agency (PSCAA). For more information, please contact PSCAA at 425-343-8800 or 800-595-4341.
A permit issued for a specific purpose cannot be used for any other purpose (e.g., a permit issued for a cooking fire cannot be used for residential burning, etc.). Permits in violation of any of the standards set forth in the King County Fire Protection Eastside Fire & Rescue Resolution 95-13, or articles of the International Fire Code, or PSCAA regulations, will be revoked.
